We made it!

Well!! This is it! We've made it everyone! This class has been fun for me.  I enjoyed almost all of the stories and all of the activities we had to do.   These last two weeks have seemed like the longest two weeks of the semester! Dealing with being sick and finals week, I am glad to see the end of this semester! This class has made me like reading a lot more than what I did before I took this class.  Hopefully this summer I will keep reading.  Anyone have any good reading suggestions for the summer? I hope everyone has a really good summer and keep safe!
Good bye everyone !

my least favorite

Out of all of the pods, our last pod has been my least favorite for some reason.  I just couldn't get into the stories like I normally can.  I started with "Going to Meet the Man."  This story was my least favorite.  It was an overall an ok story, I just didn't enjoy it.  It was graphic and made me extremely upset.  I hate how people were put through things like that just because they were different.   I think my favorite story in this pod was "Good Country People."  There was a lot to that story.  I like all of the things Hulga and her leg "stood" for. It was easy to feel bad for her and sorry for her at the end of the story.

DRAMA! DRAMA! DRAMA!

This play was excellent for our drama pod! There was drama left and right !  Overall, I liked the play. It was easy to keep reading. I always wanted to know what was going to happen next.  I didn't agree with almost anything Stanley did!  He was a madman like Blanche had said.  Blanche was also wrong in a lot of things that she did.  She shouldn't have lied to poor Mitch about everything. She also shouldn't believe that everyone should like her and that she is better than most.  I felt the most sorry for Stella.  The poor women is pregnant and her husband hits her and yells are her and throws temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way.  She also has to wait on Blanche.  She gets her everything she wants, and Blanche knows that she is pregnant! In my eyes, Blanche is crazy! I think the end of the play was good.  Unexpected, but good.

Drama is so easy to get into.  When I was in high school it seemed like teenage soap operas were getting popular.  My favorite ( still to this day) was The O.C.  Just filled with teenage drama, but it was so easy to get into because people have to deal with drama everyday =(.  It's how you deal with these things that make you who you really are.  It's sad to say, but I think everyone ( maybe not Mitch) would fail in dealing with their lives.

Fitzgerald

Every Fitzgerald story I have read I have fallen into.  The Great Gatsby is still my favorite, but the two we read for pod 6 were still pretty good.  For me it is so easy to fall into the stories.  Fitzgerald makes it so easy to picture the story and place yourself in his stories.   I liked Babylon Revisited more than Winter Dreams.  I just liked the story overall better.  I can only imagine what that time period must have felt like.  To be booming one day and the next lose everything ! People think that today is bad. Yikes!!!

Spring showers

Everyone knows the familiar saying, April showers bring May flowers.  The story Flowering Judas seems to be good to write about today since its raining out right now, just a tad bit .... haha.  This story seemed a little boring to me at first.  I like when there is conversation going on between characters and it seemed like it took forever to get some dialogue.  Once I got to read some dialogue the story picked up.  It was hard to follow at some parts, but I think I understood most of what was going on.  The dream at the end is tricky!  Its hard to know exactly what Porter is trying to get at with it.  I made a few stabs at it in the paper for this story.

Dreams are something crazy! If you really sit and think about your dreams it's wild what our minds come up with.  They amaze me at least, and when you have a dream about something totally random and then the next day it happens. Crazy!!!

On a random note, I got a duck yesterday.  His name is psyduck, sigh for short.  I'm pertty sure my hedgehog and psyduck will get along just fine =). I'm not sure how long I'm going to keep Sigh, probably until he gets big and then I'll take him to a pond! If anyone wants a duck let me know =).

Tisk Tisk Tom

WARNING! I will be talking about parts of The Great Gatsby so if you have not started reading it yet , you may want to hold off on reading this post.

I am still in the beginning of the book, and I have to  give Tom a stern tisk tisk.  I find it extremely odd that he wants Nick to meet his mistress. Tom knows that Nick and his wife, Daisy are friends so I find it odd that he would want to make things more complicated for everyone by getting Nick, a family friend, somewhat involved. I do not remember if there is a reason for what went wrong with their relationship mentioned, so I am curious to keep reading to try and find out.  They seem to have a pretty good life, so I find that it would be odd that Tom just get up and leave Daisy.  I have to keep reading to try and find out what went wrong!

The Great Gatsby

I purchased my copy of The Great Gatsby yesterday and started reading it that night.  I love that I have already read it, so when I read it now hopefully I will catch something new or something that I have forgotten about!  I love this time era.  I love how exciting things were back then.  Today things don't seem to be all too exciting.  Everything was fancy and about status then, now, not so much.  I mean, we have the celebrities, but I don't seem them having status like what people hold in this book.  I think if I could go back in time, I would like to go back to this era.  Things would be new and exciting, at least for a little bit.

Books to movies

So I was out shopping today and I went to Blockbuster because the one by Walmart is going out of business and have super cheap movies on sale, some for $.99 hurry and go get some, and I got The Road and The Kite Runner.  Both of these are books, and I haven't read The Kite Runner yet  but I have read The Road and I loved it, I'm a little hesitant to watch it in case it is a let down.  I feel like a lot of the books that get turned into movies just do not do the books justice.  If I watch the  movie before the book, I feel like I'm stuck with the movie in my head than what the book actually allows my mind to create.  Has anyone seen a movie that was also a book and felt that it was pretty much spot on?

So, I'm editing this a day later. I just finished watching The Road.  It was a pretty good movie.  It has been a while since I have read the book but I did notice that the movie did leave out a few things.  The movie did help you actually put yourself in their situation, but I felt like if you read the book you are able to understand a lot more.  On a scale of 1-10 of it being spot on with the book, I would have to give it like a 7.5. Not too bad I suppose.

Poetry!

I love poetry.  Even though I am not someone who can write it, I appreciate people who can.  One thing I like about poetry is that one poem can make you feel many different things.  Another thing that I enjoy about poetry is listening to what other people feel about the same poem, and if it makes you feel something different.  That's really interesting to me.  Not knowing the poet is fun, because you get to decipher what you think the poet was feeling and what you feel as well.  I think you can learn a lot about yourself when reading poems and by what you feel from them.  I wish I could say that I have a favorite poem but I do not.  I am not done reading all of this pod's selections of poems yet, but when I am, my next blog will be talking about which one is my favorite and why it is.  Any one who is following this entry, what is your favorite poem and why ?

A little late =(

So I realized just a few moments ago before I was going to get in the shower and get ready for bed ( the weekend shift and I are still not use to each other)  that I am a little late on getting my blog going.  Uh-oh!  So I'm going to do my best to remember to stay up to date with my posts!  I still haven't decided on what exactly I want my blog to be about yet so this post my be somewhat random.  Since its currently says my favorites I will pick my favorites so far out of what we have all ready read.  So far my favorite author from the pods has been Kate Chopin.  I really enjoyed all of her stories.  I like how involved I felt when reading her stories.  My favorite story of hers that I read would be The Storm.  I liked how much it told in such a short time.
Another one of my favorite stories is The Yellow Wall-Paper by Charlotte Gilman. I started reading it and before I knew it the story was over and I was a little sad because it was a very good read.  I found myself thinking about the story the whole day.  Which is what a good story should do ! =) It seems that I enjoyed the women selections of Realism and Naturalism more than the men selections.  Don't get me wrong, so far I have enjoyed every story that I have read, I just found it easier to put myself into the women's stories rather than the men's.
